On The Road:
2006 Book Tour
The Isbell family hit the road this summer to promote the release
of the companion books, Vicksburg: Sentinels of Stone
and
Gettysburg: Sentinels of Stone
throughout Tennessee, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Below is a summary of our progress. Links take you to photos taken at
each stage.
Wednesday, June 28: Visit to the Chickamauga
Battlefield.
Thursday, June 29: On Thursday (to the right), the family visited
the D Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia. It is an
impressive monument to the "Greatest Generation"
of American warriors on one of the most critical
days of warfare.
Friday, June 30: Book signing at Charlottesville, Va., Barnes
and Noble.
Saturday, July 1: Tim visited with Civil War author Jeff Shaara.
The sign board at the American Civil War Museum
on Steinwehr shows that Tim signed his books on
Tuesday, July 4. Below that, Jeff reacts to the
heft of the
two Sentinels photo books. The photo below that
shows Jeff graciously signing a copy of Gone for Soldiers for
Tim.
Sunday, July 2: Tim signed at Farnsworth
House Inn Bookshop in Gettysburg, Pa., with the
help of his son, Patrick.
Monday, July 3: Tim signed books at
Rupp House for the Friends of the National Parks
at Gettysburg on Baltimore Pike.
Tuesday, July 4: Tim signed books at the
American Civil War Museum and Gift Center on Steinwehr
Avenue.
Wednesday, July 5: The Isbell family
left Gettysburg for the first day's ride home.
The photo at the top of the page shows one of our
encounters along the back roads in Natural Bridge,
Va., when we saw "Foamhenge." Yes, that's
right.. Stonehenge rendered at actual size in
foam. We
had to stop for photos.
Thursday, July 6: The Isbells traveled
from Wytheville, Va., to Columbia, Tenn., and
visited Stone's
River Battlefield.
Friday, July 7: The Isbell family drove
from Columbia, Tenn., to Corinth, Miss., taking
in the battlefield of Shiloh in Tennessee.
